How to create HTML Help file on a SharePoint site?
My company is running SharePoint 2007 and Visual Studio 2005. I would like to have HTML Help files to help hundreds of users with their daily work. Before, I used Compiled HTML Help Workshop. Now, I got that Sandcatle Help Builder will do the similar work, but it requires .Net Framework 4.0. What can I do to help this job done? Thank you! Ella

Why not use SharePoint Wiki feature for building Help. This way the End-Users can even leave their comments/remarks and Help System will eventually improve on...Thanks & Regards, Kamlesh | Blog | Twitter | Posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

Hi, KSDN, Thank you very much for your reply! I didn't explain clearly enough in my previous post. I actually need create help file to explain to users about how to use a project management site, just like Windows Help files or MSDN. It is an electronic user menu, not a discussion site to allow interactions. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome. Thank you!Ella W

For a web-based help, do you need simple Pages (like Google or any other site does?) or do you want to build an advanced help (like you get on your Windows desktop)? I have earlier developed CHM files, but have not explored Help for Web Applications. Have a look at these links to get some further idea: http://sandcastle.codeplex.com/ In some cases, you can also think of buying Telerik Tooltip control, which can provide Help on each field (hope this works for SharePoint) http://demos.telerik.com/aspnet-ajax/tooltip/examples/default/defaultcs.aspx Thanks & Regards, Kamlesh | Blog | Twitter | Posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

Hi, The Sandcastle is for Framework 4.0 but we are running 3.5. I used another software, called SharePoint Help Collection Builder, developed a help file and made a .cab file, but not able to deploy on server. Our SharePoint sites are mostly for file sharing. People who create sites are mostly business people. They want to have a help file for training purposes since we have so many widely spreaded users. What is the best way to train user on a SharePoint site when your users are located in different cities or countries? Thank you for time! Ella W

How about assigning this task to Information Workers in their respective region, who can create the Help Pages using SharePoint Designer? Thanks & Regards, Kamlesh | Blog | Twitter | Posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

Have you seen this? "fpHelp BuilderSP is a simple Microsoft SharePoint Designer add-in that allows the conversion of a web site to a Microsoft HTML Help file (CHM file). The ability to work with SharePoint Designer is enough to construct the Help file from any web site." http://www.softplatz.net/Downloads/Development/Help-Tools/fpHelp-Builder-for-SharePoint-Designer.html

Hi, scogordo, I think you might have made fpHelp BuilderSP work for you. It sounds a good solution for us. But could you let me know how to get this download? I have searched for days, trying to download this software, but I am always led to this link: www.fphelpbuilder.com. The message I got is, The server www.fphelpbuilder.com at requires a username and password. And I am sure this is an internal server log in. Could you give me some advices? Thanks a lot! I really appreciate your response. Ella W

Hi Ela, There's a link to buy at $ 11.95. Also, the footer has a Feedback link to ask queries. Did you try registering a feedback on the Login prompt, which is appearing on the browser screen? Thanks & Regards, Kamlesh | Blog | Twitter | Posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

Almost everywhere I go, I encounter this server login. This "sounds good" software is buried by all kinds of advertising. Luckily found the download link, hit on it, server log in: access denied. Who can tell me if he has successfully download one? The link that scorgodo provided contains no download link, neither ability to pay. Ella W
