How to configure refinement panel for my people search results web parts?

I have a page on a SharePoint 2010 site where I am using two people search results web parts. One web part is getting its data from an SAP source and I have a refinement panel that works very well with that web part. I have also a people search core result web part that's getting user info from SharePoint. I have added a second refinement panel for the people search core result web part but it's only displaying the default refiners, not the ones I specified. I have unchecked "Use Default Configuration" and selected the correct ID in Cross-Web Part query ID but it is still only showing the default refiners. What to do?

Also, is it possible to use only one refinement panel for two search result web parts that get their data from different sources?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

As I understand, the refinement panel always displays default refiners after you configure refinement panel web part in SharePoint 2010.

Have you added custom refiners to the refinement panel web part? Could you please provide the details about what you want to do for the second refinerment panel web part?

You could delete the second refinement panel web part and add the refinement panel web part again to check if it can work.

The article below is about adding a Refiner to the Refinement Panel Web Part.

It is not possible to use only one refinement panel web part for two search results web parts. The one refinement panel web part can only work for one search results web part.

I deleted my previous refinement web part and added a People Refinement Panel web part and it shows Result type, Site, Modified Date and Job Title refiners. I unchecked the Use Default Configuration and looked at the xml in Filter Category Definition. I changed the xml there to only show job title for test but it is still showing the Result type, Site, Modified Date refiners. I would like show Job Title, Department and Location as refiners.

Hi,

Based on your description, you want to show Job Title, Department and Location as refiners in refinement panel web part in SharePoint 2010.

If it is possible, you could let the two refinement web parts in the different pages. The one refinement web part and people search web part in one page, and the other refinement web part and people search web part in the other page.

And you could check if the metadata fields exists under your search application. You could go to Central Administration -> Manage Service Applications -> Search Service Application -> Metadata Properties. If they do not exists, you need to create them. For more detailed information, you could refer to the article below.
