How to change the web address of a document library
Hi! I wanted to change the name of a document library. So I went to Doc-Lib settings > General Settings > Title and changed the name of the doc-lib. The problem now is that the Web Address of my library is still the old one: Name = NewNameURL = http://www.site.com/OldName Is there a way to change the Web Address? The only solution Ive found so long is to save the document library as a template and create a new lib based on this. But this isnt practicable in my case. I hope someone can help! Thanks in advance!

I think you would need to do some kind of URL redirect. You might be able to change it via the object model. Why isn't it practical to use the template approach?

Its because the library contains about 40.000 files. Ive tested the template approach in a test environment with 2.000 files, and the result was an unexpected error after 20 minutes (?) Do you have specific experiences with the mentioned object model? Thanks!

I did some research as I have run into this dilema before: I have not validated this so I would try it on a small test lib before you launch on the big lib. Good luck. Change the URL of your site using FrontPage 2002 Using FrontPage 2002, you can edit the URL of your subweb by opening the team Web site from within FrontPage. To open the SharePoint team Web site from within FrontPage, do the following: 1. Open FrontPage 2002. 2. On the File menu, choose Open Web. 3. In the Web Name box, enter the URL for the SharePoint team Web site you would like to edit, and then click Open. 4. On the Tools menu, select Web Settings. 5. On the General tab, in the Web name box, change the text that appears in the URL of your Web site. 6. Click OK. Note: You have to be a Web Administrator on the parent Web to change the name of a subweb. This means that if you have a web called http://server/mysubweb, then you have to be a Web administrator on http://server in order to change the name of the Web site http://server/mysubweb.

Hi! Youre right. The problem wasnt about renaming the site, but I hadnt had the idea to try renaming the library with SharePoint Designer ...... It worked with acceptable performance a test-lib with 9.000 files was renamed within 5 minutes. Thanks!

What you can do is, open the library in explorer view and go back one level up and edit the name. Not sure if it would affect indexing and the search. I did in a few library and the search doesn't yield any results. Any suggestions on the search part any one?
