How to calculate the size of data source

I have a DPM environment where only tape library is configured to storage backup. No disk storage pool.

I create a protection group to protect a lot of data source, including files and databases.

I know I can found the size of data source in "Modify Disk Allocation" if there is a storage pool. However, if no storage pool is configured, "Modify Disk Allocation" is disabled.

So, my question is how to calculate the total size of these data source in DPM in the environment?

Thank you in advance!

Hi

Here's a link to the storage calculators you can use for some workloads.

Thank you, Robert.

Actually, these three documents are not what I want. I just want to calculate the total size of the data source itself, not the size of storage used to save these data source.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Hello Henry,

This link http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb795684.aspx  shows how DPM calculates the size per datasource.

Thanks,
Shane

Hi all,

Henry meant how to calculate data source size basing on the size of the data stored on the server that will be protected.

For example to calculate needed volume size we have to use formula:

Data source size x (1 + log change) / (alert threshold - .05)

I have got two VAR: log change and alert threshold

I do not have: Data source.

I need to calculate it myslef before DPM do that because I do not have storage yet.

If I find sth I will let you know.
