How to ask some questions to a user when he close a file located on Sharepoint?
Hi! First of all, you should know that I am a beginner with SharePoint... Second: I am not fluent in English... My company is going to use Sharepoint to manage all the documentation (thousands of Word or Excel documents, but also some .pdf, for example) related to its IT. Concretely, this documentation is updated by a category of persons (about 100) and consulted by hundreds of others. To produce KPIs about the quality of the documentation, I would like to solicit feedback from users when they are consulting a document: - did you find what you where looking for? - if not, explain A solution could be to use "OnClose" events of Word and Excel, but it do not work with .pdf. Another track: create a workflow in Sharepoint which the trigger event would be the closing of a document. But is it feasible? And if yes, how? Your help will be precious. Thank you. Gilbert

I never assume that anyone is a programmer, but there are Event Receivers that allow for full programmatic control of many triggers within SharePoint. Bing it, and a whole new world will open up to you, and if you are a programmer, you'll be a pig in pooh. (That probably won't translate for you, so know that it's a good thing.) If you're not a programmer, then there is SPD, which is a more restrictive form of programming, but I can't think of a way to trigger when a document has been opened. You get OnCreate and OnUpdate which I don't think will help you. A total hack would be to have a word document for each .pdf that contains the code to open the .pdf, then prompt for the survey. (Yes, I know this is awful, but so is storing all these docs within SharePoint like it's a fileshare.)Steve Clark, MCTS | Twin-Soft.com Easy Bins Dumpster Rentals of Northern VA.
