How to add a web part to a public page (default.aspx)?
Hi, I'm trying to add a webpart back to a public page so of course ?contents=1 won't work as I'm not logged as Admin while viewing the public page. Since it's a public page, there is no Edit Page link as again, I'm not logged in, so there's no opportunity to modify webparts there. Open Web Part in Maintenance Page allows us to remove webparts, but not restore them. Restore to a previous version from the page in Pages list doesn't work with webparts in my experience. I've tried multiple times. Any ideas? I'm stumped. I'm not a developer, just the webmaster/content manager.

Do you not have an authoring site that is seperate from the production/internet site? See this for starters: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd638968(v=office.12).aspx As for your current situation, you may be able to use the web-level url with /_layouts/viewlsts.aspx (View All Site Content), enter the pages library, find the page, click Edit Properties.SharePoint Solution Architect, Developer

Hi, I suggest that you should have updated your web.config file with take a look at the events on the server and find out what error to happen. Here is a link about adding web part in code, for more information, please refer to: http://weblogs.asp.net/jan/archive/2005/06/22/414283.aspx I wish you every success in your important work. Best regards, David Hu

MossDev, I have tried finding a solution to this in our dev environment. The webpart was removed as requested, however, they later decided they wanted the webpart on the public access page again. I've been in View All Site Content in the pages list and used Edit Properties to get to the page, but when I use the Web Parts Maintenance link, of course the webpart is gone. I need to know how to restore it for people who change their mind. Here's a screenshot of how it is deleted (this is from our authoring site): From Recently Updated

Please do NOT put screen shots in your posts. There are still many people using slow lines who access the forums. Instead put the screen print on a public site and provide the URL (only) in your post. Then anyone who wants to can see your image and people who don't want to won't need to load it. (Moderator pre-SP 2010 forums) P.S. I would be grateful if you would amend the preceding post accordingly. SP 2010 "FAQ" (mainly useful links): http://wssv4faq.mindsharp.com/default.aspx WSS3/MOSS FAQ (FAQ and Links) http://wssv3faq.mindsharp.com/default.aspx Both also have links to extensive book lists and to (free) on-line chapters
