The Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 allows you to have online/offline awareness and chat with SharePoint. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/communicationsserver/default.aspx?ofcresset=1

check out yaplet.comAdded by moderator: This is a beta product. Here's a description from the site"Chat with others through any website! (Or just leave posts, send private messages or sit and watch.) No installation. No registration. "Henry: in future please give more in your posts than just a URL.

I have both Sharepoint server2007 enterprise edition and office live communications server 2005 sp1 installed and running on a computer with windows server 2003 sp2. They are both working independantly of each other and i am wondering how i "integrate" to two, so that sharepoint users are able to view presence and IM within the sharepoint site? I have looked through both the sharepoint and communications sites over and over and cannot find anything beyond the initial sales pitch. anything you could tell me would be of great help. Ben.

Benwah and Bismi, Beyond having LCS and SharePoint your users my have Office 2003 and the Messenger 5.1 client, I don't believe MSN or LIVE messenger will do it unless each of your users has a passport or MSN account. Messenger 5.1 can be found here. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=a8d9eb73-5f8c-4b9a-940f-9157a3b3d774&displaylang=en AndrewWoodward has a blog entry with more info here: http://www.21apps.com/2007/04/presence-icon-not-showing-in-moss.html

Iamusing chatterbox and there are small problems. 1. chatterbox webpart on subsites the link does not work correctly. 2. when you have lots of users using the chatterbox webpart you are going to need a better server. other than that it seems to work realy good.

You can try our product GameTime which integrates live, web-based chat into SharePoint 2010. It's leverages a purpose built chat server so you won't have the same issue as with ChatterBox in terms of the hardware horsepower you'll need to run it.
