How to Copy Documents and Versions from One List to Another?
Hello Community, I need to copy documents and document versions from one MOSS 2007 list to another (both list have the same metadata structure so there are no concerns there). Has anyone done this before and if so what is the best way to accomplish this? Thanks! Hi Tom, Are you just trying to copy the items over from the list NOT the subsite? I've exported subsites with the STSADM export command using the VERSIONS switch. Also used a third part CopyMove tool. Can't remember now whether copying thourgh datasheet view preservers the version history, have you tried this? Hope this helps! BlueSky2010

Hey BlueSky, Both the source list and the destination lists are in the same site. I know entire sites can be copied using stsadm, but in this case I just need a list. Copying thourgh datasheet view does not preserve the version history. So I still don't really have an aswer for this issue. Thanks! Okay - have you tried saving the list as a template (with content) and creating the new list from that template? This would work as look as your list is under 10 mb.BlueSky2010

Hey BlueSky, Unfortunately the list is way over 10 MB, and it's primarily the content they are interested in. Thanks! TomTom Molskow - SharePoint Architect - Microsoft Community Contributor 2011 Award - Linked-In - SharePoint Gypsy
