How often to update Collection membership
Apologies if this has already been posted and answered, but I couldn't find anything via the search.I've been thinking about how often we should update our collections, and at the moment its once per day which isn't working out (patience problems)...I'm thinking once every 6 hours, and don't foresee any problems with this increased frequency as it will only be searching the DB for existing machines in SCCM DB, right? Is there a standard recommendation? Or any consequences to the increased frequency? Thanks in advance for any help.

There is no standard for collection updating. It all depends on your structure, collection needs, adv and so forth. Most of my collections update once a day at staggard times. As a general rule you should coordinate the adv and collection refresh. You don't want the Adv going out every day BEFORE the collection updates.Generally I update the collection about 1 hour before I want the adv to go out if based on HW inventory I will make sure it runs HW inventory, Collection Refresh, then Adv kick off. That is assuming your HW inventory is at a fixed schedule. If someone wants a application faster then set the Adv to run "As soon as possible" as well as with a schedule and set the Adv to only run on machine didn't previously fail on.Where are you having the problems. Could you explain more of what you are trying to accomplish and why you think you need to update every 6 hours.http://www.sccm-tools.com http://sms-hints-tricks.blogspot.com

If you are using AD groups for software deployments I would look at this: http://www.systemcentertools.com/esd2007.htmlJohn Marcum | http://www.TrueSec.com/en/Training.htm | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum
