How often agent requests configuration?
Hi, I would like to discuss, how often agents check new configuration on RMS. You can find two ways: 1) every 5 minutes 2) agents compare configuration hash between heartbeats. When hash changes agent download new configuration. It means that when you configure any change (override, MM) for agent, maximum time is 1 minute (default heartbeat) for agent to get new configuration. What is true?:-) Thanks Jan Jan Matejka

Hi Jan, I think that this series will give you the understanding you need: http://nocentdocent.wordpress.com/2009/07/09/troubleshooting-21025-events-wrap-up/ HTHhttp://OpsMgr.ru/

None of the above :) Default config is recalculated every 30 seconds by the RMS (when triggered). The agent connects constantly (I thought every 10 seconds, but I am not sure). So if you make a change, it will be detected at maximum 40 seconds later and the agent will start downloading the changes. You can see this in the eventlog of the RMS: 21024: The is triggered to request new configuration. 29102: The RMS calculated for an agent it should update it's request 29103: The agent requested the update 2110: The file has been sent to the agent (either directly or via the connected management server) 21025: The RMS is finished and all should be up-to-date If I made a mistake or incorrectly assumed this is how it works, please let me/us know :) It is possible to adjust the default 30 seconds (we have it set to every 10 minutes), but this will also impact the amount of data being sent every 10 minutes (changes are larger, but less often). Hi, Marc right. Every 30 seconds config service checks a last update timestamps for a configuration and instance space. If something was changed in a last 30 seconds - config service starts to create a config (and a new cookie) for a management group. Agent checks for an updated config very often. I do not know exactly how often (because a results in my labs vary much) but I believe it's faster than 10 seconds. When agent 'realize' that it need a new config (seeing a new cookie) it requests a new config, downloads it as an xml file (it can take some time) and 'apply'.http://OpsMgr.ru/
