How does paging work with a matrix report?
(SSRS 2005) I have a report that I've set up with an IntreactiveSizze and PageSize of 11in,8.5in with margines of 0.25in.. The matrix appears to take up less than 11" on the screen but when I go to prive layout I am getting a blank page for every page that has data on it. Something is being pushed out to the right but I can't find out what. The main report is calling a subreport where the matrix resides. This is why I generally use tables as they are much easier to control. Is there any way to control this with a Matrix?

Couple of ideas to check. First, make sure that all your report design surfaces are less than 11 inches. If the "white space" exceeds 10.5 on either the report or subreport, you will get a blank page. If you are not seeing data or anything on the blank page, make sure you don't have any report objects pushed beyond that length as well. Make sure to refer to the ruler to make sure you have nothing outside that space. If you end up at 10.5 inches wide in the report design, it will sometimes give you an extra page. Finally, check the page setup in the print preview and make sure it is set up correctly as well. Regards.Regards, Steve If this post answers your question, please mark it as an Answer.

John This could be mainly because of the width of the matrix at run time exceeding your page width i.e, 8 inch (excluding both side margins(2*0.25). The matrix width shouldn't go beyond 7.5 to 7.9 in is what I would suggest. Please make sure the number of columns in the matrix multiplied by width of the column at design time should be within the page width. Control the matrix column width as much as you can in design time. I had similar issue, couldn't help other than fixing matrix width. And somehow this page results blank page after each page that has data on it. Hope this helps!Dinesh Behera If this post answers your question, please mark it as an Answer.

I'm actually using two matrixies in the report and hiding one depending on paramter selection. The one matrix will always run over one page wide, can't be helped. The matrix that is chosen 90% of the time should fit on one page. I wonder if the hidden matrix is causing the page overflow......

What I understand from your previous post is one of your matrix width at run time will always exceed the page width. Then this would cause blank pages for sure after report generation. I had exact issue in my last assignment where i had to generate/print PDF reports for the client which used be of 30 to 40 pages each and have around 20 to 30 SSRS objects(table/matrix/chart) within it. If any one matrix width used to cross the page width then it used to create a blank page after each and every page resulting the PDF of 80 pages. We had to cut short the number of columns/manage the width in the table/matrix convincing the client to avoid those blank pages. We had raised this issue with MS also and worked with one of the MS App Arch for a week. The only workaround we got is to fit the matrix as per the page width. And hidden matrix wouldn't cause problem, none of the SSRS object(visible/hidden) would cause blank page problem unless they cross the page width. Ok. One last suggestion. Have you used rectangles to keep the objects within. Your parent rectangle should reperesent a page. Take rectangles of height just less than 11in and width just less than 8in(excluding margin) and put all your controls(table/matrix) inside. This way you can make sure your page height and width both are per PDF/A4 standard size. If this too doesn't work, then remove the control which has the maximum width and then generate/export to PDF. If that works fine then you got to fix the matrix. I hope this would help!Dinesh Behera If this post answers your question, please mark it as an Answer.
