How do I get the first child group on the same row as the parent group?
Hi, How do I get the first child group row on the same row as the parent group row? The underlying reason for this is that within my tablix control I am expressing a one to many relationship between company and contract. However most of the companies have only one contract. Please find the following example output I would like; - Company Company Address Company No of Employees Contract Contract Description Bangers & Mash Ltd 10 Sausage Way, Porcton 10 1 Lunch Fish & Chips Ltd 20 Haddock Close, Whitby 50 2 Lunch Chicken Tikka 50 Dehli St, Bradford 40 3 Dinner Pizza Express 43 Italian Way, Bedford 30 4 Breakfast 5 Lunch 6 Dinner Chinese 10 Beijing Way, London 40 7 Dinner Total Number of Employees 170 Thanks in advance, Kieran. If you have found any of my posts helpful then please vote them as helpful. Unfortunately I currently don't have anywhere I can easily upload an image. I've re-formatted the table as follows (hopefully this will look clearer on your browser) ; - Company Contract Contract Description Bangers & Mash Ltd 10 Sausage Way, Porcton 10 1 Lunch Fish & Chips Ltd 20 Haddock Close, Whitby 50 2 Lunch Chicken Tikka 50 Dehli St, Bradford 40 3 Dinner Pizza Express 43 Italian Way, Bedford 30 4 Breakfast 5 Lunch 6 Dinner Chinese 10 Beijing Way, London 40 7 Dinner Total Number of Employees 170 Thanks in advance, Kieran. Hi Kieran, Set your Company as Parent Group of your Contract in ReportDesigner. Also Set the Company Text Vertical Alignement as TOP. Hopefully it will resolve your issue.Rakesh M J Dont forget to mark it as Answered if found useful MCTS,MCITP,MCSS http://mycubeandreports.blogspot.com/

Hi Rakesh, Thanks for your reply. I already had Company set as the parent group of the Contracts details row with my tablix control. I've set both the Company Column and Company Column label both to Text Veritical Alignment = Top. However I still get the same result on previewing my report as I had when I asked the original question. What I believe I am struggling with is where to place the contract data items within my tablix control. That is to say; - If I place the contract data items on the details row then the contract details appear one line below the company details which appears odd when there is only one contract for a particular company. If I place the contract data items on the company group row I just get just the first contract associated with the company group. If I place the contract data items on both the company group and contract details row then the first row gets repeated. Maybe I could use some sort of expression to display the any contract details associated with the company in the details row group with the exception of the first contract which is displated on the Company row group? Hi Kieran, From your scenario, you would like to show the report like the example you have mentioned above. When you add parent group, have you select “Add group header” or “Add group footer”? If that’s the case, please add parent group without select “Add group header” and “Add group footer” and rename the group as company, then delete the company column in details row. If the issue still persists, could you please send your RDL file with simple data structure? Once I receive your email, I will give you a feedback as soon as possible. Hi Eileen, Sorry I've not updated this thread for a while. I have found a solution. Please also click on this link; - How to get the first child group on the same row as the parent group My solution is as follows; - 1) Select relevant tablix. 2) Within the grouping pane select the down arrow to the right of Columns Groups 3) Select "Advanced Mode" 4) Select the "(Static)" row within "Row Groups" which is above the (Details) group. 5) The first row in the table will be selected which is immediately adjacent to the first row of the Company Group. 6) Press "F4" to bring up properties 7) Set the hidden properties to true. This will achieve the desired affect of having the first displayed child group (contract) on the same row as the parent group row (company) by hiding the first child group (contract) which is adjacent to the parent group row (company). I hope this is helpful to someone. Kind Regards, Kieran. If you have found any of my posts helpful then please vote them as helpful.
