How do I create views the Quick Launch?

We are in the process of upgrading from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2013.  On our Home Site and all Sub-Sites, we have the Quick Launch menu.  If you click on Documents "heading" Only Document Libraries for the Site/Sub-site display.  In SharePoint 2013, each Quick Launch heading "Documents", "Calendar", "Lists", "Discussions", "Sites", etc. takes me to Sites Content - Lists, Libraries, and Other Apps.

I'd really like to correct the links to only display the content specific to the Quick Launch Heading.

Thank you,

Jamey.

Hi Jamey,

According to your description, my understanding is that the quick launch directed to sites content after upgrading from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2013.

Please check if the URLs of the navigation items are correct in Site Settings -> Navigation -> Structural Navigation: Editing and Sorting fields. If that is the case, please remove the links and add links with correct URLs and test whether this issue occurs. If not, please edit the links and type correct URLs and test whether this issue occurs.

Please also check if the issue occurs to all sites. If that is the case, then manually modify the links wont work, we might need to check log for root cause.

A post about how to add links in Quick Launch or Left Navigation for your reference:

Dean - Thank you.  I have read and understand the article, but it does not assist with my issue.

Also, I have looked at Site Settings, Navigation.  Under Current Navigation I do have the radio button selected for Structural Navigation: Display only the navigation items under the current site.  Furthermore the Show Pages box is checked while the Show subsites is not.  I have tried selecting BOTH and I've tried selecting only Show Subsites, but neither option changed anything.

I'm thinking that the URL's of the navigation items are NOT correct, but I have no way to learn what is correct.  The URL's migrated from SharePoint 2007 are the exact URL's in SharePoint 2013 site but do not perform the same.  I'm going to try to show you an example of my quick launch issue, but I'm not sure if the formatting will remain intact here:

Pictures

          I.S. Pictures

Documents  <------------------------- Click on this in 2007 and see ONLY Document Libraries on this site.  In 2013 I see Sites Content - Lists, Libraries, and Other Apps.

          I.S. Public Documents

          I.S Private Documents

Lists

          Calendar

          Tasks

Sites

          Document Management Project

          Software Engineering

The URL for the Documents Link is "/sites/ISDept/_layouts/15/viewlsts.aspx?BaseType=1"  I need to learn how to make this link only show me the Document Libraries for the ISDept site.

Thank you very much for your assistance.

Jamey.

Hi Jamey,

What do you mean how to make this link only show me the Document Libraries for the ISDept site? Do you want to show the document library by default in SharePoint site?

If that is the case, the correct URL of the document library by default is /sites/ISDept /Shared Documents/Forms/AllItems.aspx.

If you want to show all the document libraries in the SharePoint site. You could create a new heading which contains all the links to the document libraries in the left navigation.

Dean,

You have gotten me a little closer, but it's not 100% correct at this time.  I'll start with answering your question "What do you mean..."

Under /sites/ISDept/ I have 5 document libraries: Documents, IS Internal Docs, IS Public Docs, Images, and Pages.  2 of these (IS Internal Docs & IS Public Docs) appear in the quick launch.

In SharePoint 2007's quick launch, if I click on Documents I see all 5 document libraries listed and the View: is Document Libraries.

Here are the 5 individual URL's for the 5 document libraries:

       /sites/ISDept/Documents/Forms/AllItems.aspx

       /sites/ISDept/IS%20Internal%20Docs/Forms/AllItems.aspx

      /sites/ISDept/Shared%20Documents/Forms/AllItems.aspx

      /sites/ISDept/PublishingImages/Forms/AllItems.aspx

      /sites/ISDept/Pages/Forms/AllItems.aspx

In SharePoint 2013's quick launch, if I click on Documents I see Sites Content - Lists, Libraries, and Other Apps. Which is basically all site content.  If I edit the link for Documents to equal your suggestion "/sites/ISDept /Shared Documents/Forms/AllItems.aspx" It displays that one specific document library (IS Public).

What I'm after is a way to see the 5 document libraries so that I can then chose to step through to the next level, or into a specific document library. I've tried many combinations of URL, but I'm not finding the right one; for example /sites/ISDept/Forms/AllItems.aspx and /sites/ISDept/AllItems.aspx but these yield Page Not Found displays.

Thank you,

Jamey.

Hi Jamey,

UI changes a lot when upgrade from SharePoint 2007 to 2013. In SharePoint 2013, it displays the libraries which are chosen Display this document library on the Quick Launch? in library settings. Also, it displays site contents which you operate recently.

About how to display the 5 document libraries:

1.In Site Settings -> Navigation, click Add Heading, type the Title.

2.Click the heading you created, click Add Link, type the 5 libraries.

>> if I click on Documents I see Sites Content - Lists, Libraries, and Other Apps.

Please check if the URL of the Documents is the same as the URL of Site Contents.

Please check if the issue occurs in other sites.
