How do I configure SharePoint Incoming Email when using hMailServer?
Hi, My WSS 3.0 is running on Windows 2008 standard edition and I want to configure the SharePoint Incoming email facility. Here are the configurations: 1. OS: Windows 2008 Standard Edition.2. No Active Directory, Just acting like standalone machine with local user accounts.3. No Exchange Server. Anyway, I have tried to configure SMTP Virtual Server under IIS6. But finally I got to know Windows 2008 doesnt support the POP3. So, I have installed hMailServer and now everything is working perfectly. But the problem is how can enable the SharePoint Incoming Emails to given document library. Coz, I am running the SMTP/POP3 on hMailServer, not the exchange or IIS SMTP Virtual Server. So, please advise me on this. Thx

There comes no dropfolder with hMailServer. You should create an eventhandler in hMailServer to copy the emails to a dropfolder. You can find a How To over here: http://weblogs.asp.net/wesleybakker/archive/2010/08/05/configure-hmailserver-for-sharepoint-2010.aspx Cheers, WebbesListen carefully, I will say this only once.

I an account in the hMailServer. I used spdropfolder@domain.com. Next, I configured a catch-all email address on the domain configurations (domainname.com) with sharePoint@domainname.com. Next, I configured an alias on the spdropfolder account (sharepoint@domainname.com). On the file system, hMailServer creates folders for the configured accounts. You would need to ensure that the SharePoint Timer Service has appropropriate permissions on the spdropfolder. The spdropfolder is my catch-all location. Next, share the spdropfolder on the server. I used this configuration in a demo environment. In the Central Admin site. Navigate to the Operations tab. Configure the Incoming Email Settings. You specifically want to configure the drop folder to the shared folder \\demo2010\spdropfolder. Sorry, I was rushed for time.
