How can you disable Open with Windows Explorer?
We are using MOSS 2007. For our instructional portals we have been trying to disable Open with Windows Explorer in the document libraries because the kids figured out how to do this and are able to see each other's work, so the teachers want to disable it all together. We have disabled the view BUT Open with Windows Explorer is still an option from the Actions drop-down on the toolbar. What is the most effective and efficient way to remove this option??

Thanks for the idea, I think we'd miss the other features it disables though..

A few approaches you can take: Change the permissions required to Open with Windows Explorer - Currently you need Use ClientIntegration to view this menu option. You could change the properties of this menu item so that you need ManageWeb permissions instead. It's not an approach I like but might be just what you want. Make sure you backup files that you change and document the changes. Service Packs & Updates might override files on the file system. Microsoft Support might not support you if you have changed files on the file system. Read http://slingeronline.wordpress.com/2008/02/11/hiding-open-with-windows-explorer-from-the-actions-menu/ Create a separate page that shows the documents and hide the ability to view _layouts pages - creat a separate page that has a list view webpart or content viewer web part. This web part shows the students documents from the document library. Now remove the ability to view document listing so that students can not view the document library with the open with windows explorer. Might a better solution from the very little business reasons I see. Either way, think it throw and make sure you test this properly.
