How can I disable the Offline Files during install from original DVD media
How can I disable the Offline Files during install from original DVD media? Simple question, hopefully as simple an answer out there. Background: Using Windows XP we could disable offline files from GPO. This doesn't seem to be working for Windows 7. We have created a new GPO from the RSAT for Windows 7 so it isn't the old policy and still no luck...hit or miss. We need offline files disabled for the student computer labs so we don't have 50+ student profiles sync'ing to the machine. We also want the offline files enabled for employees so they can take the machines home and work offline. We just started trying to use thin images instead of a ton of thick ones. We previously would created the image for students, disabled offline files, capture the image and then deploy that. Trying to get away from this...it is not automatic.Find this post helpful? Hey Chase , Maybe this will help http://www.instantfundas.com/2010/03/create-customized-unattended-windows-7.html And this is how to disable offline files feature permanently on the system Open registry editor by executing Regedit from Run window.(Windows + R Shortcut) Say Yes in the User Account Control confirmation window. Go to the node HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CSC From the list of registry values displayed in the right side pane, change the data in the registry value Start to 4. Close registry editor and reboot the machine. Blog at http://www.rpieniaz.wordpress.com

Ok, so I forgot to mention we are not trying to actually make new DVDs, but rather install using SCCM OSD using the originl media as source. The tool linked seems like the old nLite which was awesome for Windows XP, but can I use that to create just the unattend file and not modify the actual image?Find this post helpful? So let me get it correctly. You want to install those systems via SCCM OSD using DVDs as the installation source files ? Then just in TS use the registry I showed you to disable the offline files and you will have it. Blog at http://www.rpieniaz.wordpress.com

Blog at http://www.rpieniaz.wordpress.com I haven't used that feature of the task sequence yet, so that didn't sink in. Durh to me. I will give it a try and then mark your posts accordingly.Find this post helpful? Does this post answer your question? Be sure to mark it appropriately to help others find answers to their searches.

Where in the task sequence order do registry entries go? Before or after Setup windows and config manager? After driver packs or before? Between where? etc? Also I do not see an "Apply registry change" option in the task sequence. How do I do this? If you could give me some step by steps I'd appreciate it. Find this post helpful? I created a sub group in my Task Sequence named "Disable Offline Files". Under that a Run Command Line named "Disable CSC service". Beneath that a rebot to the current operating system. I choose to put it right after the Setup windows and ConfigMgr. For the Command line I used: REG ADD "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CSC" /v Start /t REG_DWORD /d 4 /f WORKED LIKE A CHAMP! Thanks Rpieniazek! Find this post helpful?
