Hi,you could do it in different ways depending on if you are using MOSS or WSS.In WSS, you need to add users and edit the properties, and then use a search web part to find them.In MOSS, use Profiles and Employee Lookup.Cheers, Daniel Bugday Web: SharePoint Forum Blog: Daniel Bugday's SharePoint Blog

If you are using Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS), you can set it up to import from your Active Directory to create profiles. It will also automatically setup a search index so that you can search just people. So you can search on John Doe and see not only their phone number, but also other information you have imported. As an added bonus you can modify the fields in the profiles to either include other information from AD or information that the users enter themselves (like areas of expertise). There are plenty of resources out there that instruct you how to import profiles and modify the fields.Gary A. I think that the problem you will run into is viewing the content in a list format. I have done some things with search, but found limitations with the sorting (example- the search web part returns results 50 at a time and then sorts those 50. This caused issues because every page was sorted, but the pages weren't sorted across all pages). For what I was doing, this limitation was ok, but if I needed to scale to be larger, then I would have needed to go down the custom path. I am sure that there are some employee directory web parts out there that you could purchase, do a search on MOSS 2007 Employee Directory and you will get some good leads.Just make sure you keep these things in mind as you look at all the solutions out there:http://blogs.msdn.com/joelo/archive/2008/03/11/evaluating-sharepoint-partner-solutions-and-applications-built-on-sharepoint.aspx~Jennifer Mason ~My Blog~ ~SharePoint Support~

This articledescribes a step-by-step guide to promote the user information in Active Directory to the SharePoint environment, resulting in a Who is Who functionality on the SharePoint environment. Off course, you can use it aswell to have a phone directory.Patrik | My Blog

I think the problem you will encounter is the display of content in a list format. I did a search on some things, but noted the limits on the type of sorting . So far as I did, the limit was OK, but if I have to be wider, so I need to go down the custom path. I am sure that some parts of Web Directory workers there who can buy, look for Moss to Employee's Guide to 2007 and you get some good results. ______________________________________ Reverse Phone Look Up

Could you make one using SSO? At the moment we have all or number that are important on a HTML page. I know this will be abit of a hassle to make into a database and I could just paste them into a word document and the put it in a list type function. But I was wondering which would be better. Time really isnt issue so I could do whcih ever. Thanks for the help

Use the Configure Profile Import to update your profiles on a scheduled basis, nightly, weekly, etc.Write a console application using the SharePoint object model that updates a SharePoint list with the user profiles.Run the console application nightly so that it updates your SharePoint list everyday with any new hires and removes people that have left the company.Use this SharePoint list as your phone directory. Set up views on this list to display subsets of your user profiles. You can even use the Data View Webpart to give it a more appealing look.~ Cyborg8

If you want to have native lists (e.g. with Offline replication using outlook, change notifications, workflows, additional fields and of course search, just take a lokk here for a step-by-step into to replicate local Active Directory to native SharePoint contact lists, e.g. with SharePoint on-premise or Office 365 in the cloud. http://www.layer2.de/en/community/FAQs/cloud-connector/Pages/Office-365-AD-Phonebook.aspx Hope that solves the issue.
