Hosting video on sharepoint site

Hi Folks,

I need to host video on sharepoint public facing site. For this i have developed a custom webpart and using embedding code i am hosting video on site.

It is expected, we will be using about 50 video(1 video size=50 MB) files and 100 concurrent users will be accessing it.With performance point of view, which would be proper option for video hosting :

  • Hosting Video on same site
  • Using Video streaming server

If  Separate video streaming server is prefferred then how i will be using select video option (as i am calling Site Asset Picker in my custom video webpart).

Kindly suggest me in which way i need to proceed.

Thanks in anticipation,

Kesh

Hi,

According to the performance test from MSFT' side, if you have 100 concurrent users and average 50MB\per video it is not necessarily to have separate video streaming server even when you have only 1 WFE role server.

However, please understand that this is not an absolute answer because there are many factors which will affect the performance such as user behavior, SharePoint Server hardware, SharePoint role assignment and etc. You may refer to the following document for capability planning when publishing video content.

Estimate capacity and performance for video content management in SharePoint Server 2013

For capability related question, we would recommend you  to follow this whole process to create your own baseline.
