Host Sharepoint 2007 From Home
Hi all,Im quite a new user to Sharepoint and know little of its strengths and weaknesses. However im very tempted over this weekend to setup Sharepoint 3 or 2007 up on my Home webserver and use it as a personal Website where i can host some programs and applications, documents, pictures, videos and anything else i might want to share with the world. So my question to you all is this easy to setup and do?... also is there a link out there to show you how to host your own website via sharepoint at home? I've hosted many websites for myself and friends via IIS and XAMPP (Linux) and all have been straight forward. Never with Sharepoint though. Can you help.thanks.

I dont think you will want to do that. The cost to host a web site on the internet for sharepoint is like 40,000 per web server. is it easy to setup is a very subjective question. I think it is fairly easy to setup. I can find you a like if you are still interested

Hi Mate,Im wanting to actually host the website AT HOME on my own server not via a sharepoint hosting website. I know it might be slow depending on my upload speed but it will be a good start for me to use sharepoint and maybe bring it in to the school i work instead of the VLE we currently use. If you could give me a link or talk me through it i would be very gratefulthanks.

for you to host a website at home the host of hosting it at your house or any where in the world is 40,000 per web server. that is what you have to pay for it to be legal. I can help you I just want you to know the consequences before you start.

My advice would be if you want to install WSS v3 or MOSS 2007 at home to test or play with and you have MSDN or some other license that allows you to do that then go for it for YOUR USE ONLY. To be perfectly clear, putting a public facing MOSS 2007 site required that you properly license your Windows Server, SQL Server, and MOSS server to be used by anonymous users. Check with a Microsoft representative to verify you have the proper licenses. If you want a public site to share with the world then you can get a WSS v3 relatively inexpensively from a number of hosting companies. However, there is no such thing as shared MOSS 2007 hosting.John SharePoint911: SharePoint Consulting Blog: http://www.rossonmoss.com Twitter: JohnRossJr MOSS Explained: An Information Workers Deep Dive into Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007
