Help with email alerts
Hello All, I hope this is a easy one. I'm trying to setup email alerts for a document library on a new site collection (that's using the Document Center Site Template). The email alert is to just simply notify a user (or eventually users in a group) that a new item is there when items arrive. I'm logged in as the site collection administrator as I'm doing all this. When I initially setup the alert, I get the notification that there is an alert. However, when I try and upload a document to the document library, I get no notification that the item has been added. Any and all help would be great, thanks!

One other thing I noticed was that the email alerts work fine in a subsite under my main site collection of the web application that the managed path. What I mean is: http://companyportal/subsite/ <---alerts work fine (Get both the initial email and the notification that a new item has been added) http://companyportal/managedpath/ <---alerts do not work (Get the initial email that the notification has been setup, nothing after that) I've tried running this command: stsadm -o updatealerttemplates -url http://testserver -f "c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\TEMPLATE\XML\alerttemplates.xml" -LCID 2057 As stated by this article: http://weblogs.asp.net/mellota/archive/2007/10/11/sharepoint-2007-task-notification-alert-emails-not-working.aspx and didn't see any changes. Any ideas? Thanks.

hello many problems with alerts are related with security. In your case you have alerts working in one site collection and doesn't work in another site collection (managed paths are used in Sharepoint in order to distinguish URL parts specific to site collection). Users and groups are created on site collection level, i.e. all subsites within one site collection share users and groups. But sites from another site collection do not share them. So may be you try to assign alert in site collection http://companyportal/managedpath for user which belongs to another site collection (http://companyportal )? If not I hope that it will give you a direction for investigation Blog - http://sadomovalex.blogspot.com CAML via C# - http://camlex.codeplex.com Graphs visualization in Sharepoint - http://spgraphviz.codeplex.com
