Help Converting Report from RS 2005 to RS 2008 R2
Hello. We are currently using SSRS 2005 and are uprading to SSRS 2008 R2. We have a Dynamic GP installation that uses char columns (as opposed to varchar) to store data that we are reporting against. In SSRS 2005, reports would automatically remove any trailing whitespace left from these char columns. In SSRS 2008 R2 it appears that the trailing whitespace is only removed in the regular HTML render, but when exporting the reports to PDF, printing them, etc it retains all of this whitespace. I have checked that ConsumeContainerWhitespace is true on the reports. I realize that I could manually trim all of the characters off by using the trim command on each column but we have 350+ reports with a multitude of columns... and I really really don't want to do that individually for each report. Is there any other way around this issue? Please help preserve what little sanity I have left! Thanks! John

Hi John, I’m afraid the behavior of rendering white space in a CHAR column is changed by design. As you posted, we need to manually trim these fields in the report , dataset or data source based on your needs.
