Health Service not starting
I'm testing out SCE 07 and am running into a problem. When I attempt to discover using the "Configure Computers and Devices" wizard in the console, I receiveerror below. I try to restart the OpsMgr Health Service but when I do it is unable to start it and gives the error code 0x80004005:Unknown Reason. Any ideas on what could be causing this? Note: I had WSUS on this server at one point, but is now removed. Also I am running this on a server with 1GB of RAM knowing that 2 is recommended, but am not noticing any slow down (a second stick is on the way). The 80004005 error means that access is denied. Are you running any anti-virus software or firewall that could be refusing access to the service or the port necessary? Has the password changed for the account used during setup for administrative access? Has any modifications been made in the services snap-in from the original install configuration? (The Ops Mgr Health Service should be running under Local System)

No AV/Firewall. Although when trying to make sure the windows firewall wasn't the cause I discovered the RPC service wasn't started(Health Service relies on RPCservice). When I tried to start it, says it is in use(ipnat.sys). After tinkering with that, I got RPC service to start, but I'm getting the same error when starting the Health Service. I'm wondering if the fact that we are testing the newest version of citirx on the same box could be the cause, even though it is disabled. No password changes and no changes were made to the snap-in. This is a fresh install and the only thing I did prior to trying to discover devices was configure the features wizard it prompts me to run after a clean install.

When you try to start the Health Service on the SCE server, do you get any errors in the Operations Manager or System Event logs?
May 31st, 2007 4:46am

The System Logrepeats what I said earlier that it couldn't start the service for an unknown reason. The Ops Mgr log says: OpsMgr Config Service failed to send the dirty state notifications to the dirty OpsMgr Health Services. This may be happening because the Root OpsMgr Health Service is not running. preceded by: Configuration state of OpsMgr Health Service "{090367ec-82de-f19e-c4f8-6402a8fec8ee}" running on "MyServer.MyDomain.com" may be out of date. It should contact OpsMgr Config Service to synchronize its configuration state.

Can you confirm that the administrative account (action account) is running as a server administrator and the health service is set to run as Local System?

Hi Stephanie, I just ran into the same issue. I had to reinstall SCE 2007 because no discoveries were happening and the Health Service would not start. I uninstalled then reinstalled but same thing: Error: 0x80004005. The dependent service RPC is running. I am logged into the server as domain admin and that is how I installed SCE. The Health Service is set to login as local system.

Same issue here. Cannot start the the OpsMgr Health Service which is set to use the localsystem account.Error from OpsMgr:Date: 6/20/2007 2:37:43 PMApplication: System Center Operations Manager 2007Application Version: 6.0.5000.0Severity: ErrorMessage: Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Common.LocationMonitoringObjectNotAvailableException: Health Service 'SC1.sc.org' in which the location monitoring object is contained is not available. Just re-read Stephanie's post above. Added the Management Server Action Account to the local admins group and restarted the OpsMgr Health Service. Discovery now works. Thanks.

I am getting the same errors, but only when installing onto a server running Citrix Metaframe 4.5. The OpsMgr agent installs, and the acction account is both a local admin and full citrix admin, but i get the error 0x80004005 as well. If i let the local action account run as the local system the health service will start, but not inventory.

I am having the same issue (error 0x80004005) with the OpsMgr Health Service not starting. The service log on is set to Local System Account. The Local System Action Account is set with UserName LocalSystem and domain NT Authority. It does not appear that I can change any of the Action Account information. I also get the following system event error log message - Event Type: Error Event Source: Service Control Manager Event Category: None Event ID: 7023 Date: 6/28/2007 Time: 3:47:22 PM User: N/A Computer: ALADDIN Description: The OpsMgr Health Service service terminated with the following error: Unspecified error For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. This may be happening because the Root OpsMgr Health Service is not running. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. Hello everyone!I've read nearly all posts around MicrosoftTechNet forums as well as some others regarding problems with starting Health Service (OpsMgr Health Service) and found no answer formy case. I've installed SCE 2007 on Windows Server 2003 Standard CZ (czech localized) R2 and stumbled upon the following error whenever I tried to configure "Computers and devices to manage": Date: 17.11.2007 18:53:54Application: System Center EssentialsApplication Version: 6.0.1251.1Severity: ErrorMessage: Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Common.LocationMonitoringObjectNotAvailableException: Health Service 'vapo_nt.COMPANY.local' in which the location monitoring object is contained is not available. I used created Action_Account, which is a member of Domain Users and Local Administrators, as an administration account during the installation of SCE. Now, all OpsMgr services (OpsMgr Health, OpsMgr Config, OpsMgr SDK) are using LocalSystem to log on, in the administration space of SCE console in Run As Accounts - Local System Action Account is set to UserName: LocalSystem and Domain: NT Authority and there's obviously no way of making any changes to that, so I assume it's correct.I've tried to restart OpsMgr Health Service several times and all in vain. I'm ready to provide any sort of information in order to fix this, as I ran out of ideas on how to proceed. Please, HELP!!!!

I had the same issue and I resolved it by doing the following:Run --> Regedit --> [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\NetworkProvider\HwOrder]"ProviderOrder"="RDPNP,LanmanWorkstation,WebClient,RARfsClientNP"and remove the "RARfsClientNP" or it may be "RFNP32"

You might also want to check if service of "Server" is running. If it is not, start it. And try again.
