HP ENVY TouchSmart Sleekbook 4-1115dx very laggy with Windows 10 Tech Preview

The comp came with windows 8, and it flew. Never had a problem really. Never had a virus that wasn't quickly eliminated with AVG. Never had any significant lag that wasn't handled imediately with scheduled maintenance.

Granted, it's a little old now (I got it January 2013) and it only has 4gb ram, but the lag in Windows 10 is....bad. For example, it often takes up to 10 seconds to open the start menu or one of the few programs I use on the reg. The three programs I often use are Evernote, Todoist (a task app), and Chrome (I keep the tabs and extensions to a minimum). Then, God forbid I need to use Word, excel, or publisher. It then becomes a nightmare. I also use CCleaner as a maintenance program sometimes multiple times a week.

Everything freezes often until it catches up. Opening new apps or even settings is often so slow that I'm left leaning back in my chair waiting for the thing to respond.

I like Windows 10 a lot despite these issues so my question is three-fold: Is this going to continue after a full release of Windows 10, and do you think it's a hardware problem or a software issue?

Also, would it help if I tried to upgrade the ram? I mean that always helps, but should I need to do that?

Cheers!

Windows 10 Technical Preview is still under testing and development and such issues are expected and you may report all of these issues through Feedback App.

People in Windows team are working to make Windows a better product and hopefully in the final release of Windows you won't face these issues and if you faced such problems, you could always discuss it in Microsoft forums.

Hi agorist,

Yes, Windows 10 sometimes becomes too slow in response, expecially when I switch apps, and the time after I switch some full screen games, the start menu would be expected to open in 10 seconds, or more.

Well the machine I used to install Windows 10 cantains an old display device, which I thought should be the cause of the lagging here, the old display drivers.

Generally this should be the compatibility issue, you may take a try to search the device driver update using Windows Update, see if this could make the situation better.

Besides, submit this using the Windows Feedback Tool.

Regards
