Is there a way to remove the login prompt when a visitor clicks on a link to a document in a doc library?

Yes, assuming that you are using AD authentication, add sharepoint site URL into trusted locations in the IE.Tools > Internet Options > Security > Trusted SitesRegardsIvan Bondy - MCPD, MCDBA, MCSA, MCTS - Sharepoint consultant

This is an internet site and in order for them to not get prompted every visitor will have to add my site to their trusted site list?(Question)Is there another way to get around that? What if the user does not have control enough to add to their trusted site list?

Another thing I noticed is that it only happens with Office documents(Go figure!)

On the internet side everybody is an anonymous user because the webserver is outside the firewall. No one logs in the the site on the public side

Hi, May be this post can help you: http://forums.technet.microsoft.com/en-US/sharepointecm/thread/1514a41a-6733-430b-b3e2-07bcbcb63189 In this thread, as Joost Evertse said, there has a workaround about this issue in this blog: http://www.objectsharp.com/cs/blogs/max/archive/2008/04/21/sharepoint-public-facing-website-and-microsoft-office-documents.aspx.( assuming you have already enabled anonymous access on SharePoint) But as Nolet Spirits U.S.A mentioned, disabling client integration will remove features which launch client applications, some authentication mechanisms (such as Forms) don't work well with client applications. So please note this side effect when you use the workaround. For more information, you may also read the blog post. Hope it can be helpful. Xue-Mei Chang

I've had same issue and its not that easy to get all the answers. For me I was finally successful but steps may not pertain to your configuration. I'm running IIS7/WSS3.0 and anon logons are NOT allowed. I followed the steps in several KBs, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912492 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2019105/en-us The second one I think really did it since I feel its less of an Sharepoint issue and at least in part an Office2007 issue where its seeing IE/Login user and then a site that is responding in a way that it tries to open the file directly on the site. The second KB says, Disable support of the OPTIONS and PROPFIND verbs – For instance, to accomplish this with Windows SharePoint Services the site should be configured to not enable Client Integration and/or the OPTIONS and PROPFIND verb should be inhibited (on IIS6, remove the verbs from the <httpHandlers> registration line in the web.config file; on IIS7, use the HTTP Verbs tab of the Request Filtering feature to deny the verbs). In IIS7 you need to have Request Filtering installed - Server Manager -> Roles -> IIS7 - but even if it is installed (as in my case) this may also require an Administration Pack installed so this module shows in the IIS Manager (http://www.iis.net/download/AdministrationPack ) Then within IIS7 Manager -> Sharepoint site -> Request Filtering make two new Deny entries for OPTIONS and PROPFIND. After doing this our site finally stopped IE users from experiencing all the extra login prompts and attempts to open Office files directly! Yay! David
