I've got a site collection of team sites.  The parent site is set to how subsites in the Global top nav.  The child teamsites are set to inherit the global nav from the parent.  However on two of the team sites, in the global nav, there appears a drop down menu with links to Site Content and Recycle Bin in them.  I can't figure out how those got there and I don't see how to get ri

Besides, navigate to Site Settings->Navigation(Activate SharePoint Server Publishing infrastructure feature), you can set you Global Navigation here:
