Getting the error 'The Web site that is referenced here is not in the configuration database" WSS 2.0
running wss 2.0 on a win 2003 server, sql 2005
I have checked all posts relating to this error message without success.
The database is in the database table inthe sp_config db
the site is in the Virtual servers table, and the sites table.
The website is started in IIS

This is a long time ago so all I can do is state the obvious and then wonder if there was in those far-off days a solution.
The message indicates that the configuration database and the content database are out-of-sync.
My memory tells me that when you install WSS 2.0 in a new system you get a new configuration database. So I would consider doing that and then getting the new system to use the old content database.
How, though, is lost in time but you could consider looking at my now ancient WSS v2 FAQ site and checking out the FAQ section there.(http://wssv2faq.mindsharp.com/Lists/v2%20WSS%20FAQ/AllItems.aspx)
[Note the different views although III Administration is probably the one that might have something useful.]

Hi,
According to your description, I have found a useful KB link, in that one,
if you try to access the CompanyWeb intranet site (http://companyweb), any subsites, or any other top-level Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 site now, you
will receive the following error message: The Web site that is referenced here is not in the configuration database. For more information, please refer to it:

The version of WSS 2.0 that is used by SBS 2003 is different to the standard version of WSS 2.0.
Company Web is a purely SBS 2003 concept and the KB article you refer to is purely a SBS 2003 KB Article.
In my opinion unless the user is running WSS 2.0 as part of SBS 2003 which he doesn't say (and it is unlikely that he is because he did describe his environment in detail) then your information
about how the WSS 2.0 in SBS 2003 works is very unlikely to be of use to him.
