Getting error while opening Excel document from SharePoint site

Hello All,

I am getting following error while opening Excel document from SharePoint site.

Excel Error

This issue appears when we open Excel document from Windows>> Run using below mentioned command:

Excel.exe "{File Name}"

If once I go to Excel back stage and browse for the SharePoint location, then this problem disappears.

I have a work around for this issue but main problem is that i do not have any work around when i need to open Exel document using Excel COM interop in C#.

Thanks,

Amit

Hi Amit Bansal,

Did the error appear when you open the Excel document in SharePoint site using command prompt? Did the error appear when you open the Excel document in SharePoint site by clicking it directly?

Could you provide more details about If once I go to Excel back stage and browse for the SharePoint location? It would be helpful to solve your issue if you provide more details.

Is there something special in the Excel document? Please create a simple Excel document in SharePoint site and open it and test whether this issue occurs.

Please have a try to open other kind documents and test whether this issue occurs.

Please make sure that the SharePoint site is added to IE Trusted Intranet Zone.

Please increase the connection time out (6 minutes is recommended) on the web site that host the SharePoint site on IIS.

How to increase the connection time out:

>>In Excel 2013 i go go to Excel backstage and browse SharePoint location. After browsing SharePoint location, I do not get any error.

Hi Amit Bansal,

According to your description, the issue may be caused by authentication. You are unable to open the Excel document in SharePoint site using command prompt before you sign in the SharePoint site.

A solution can be to map SharePoint library to a network drive using WebDav. After mapping, you could type the path of WebDav to open the Excel document using command prompt.
