Getting error when trying to access a document library
WSS 3.0
Hi,
I copied a link of a folder inside a document library to an email and when I click to open the link, I get the following error:
Error
An unexpected error has occurred.
Web
Parts Maintenance Page: If you have permission, you can use this page to temporarily close Web Parts or remove personal settings. For more information, contact your site administrator.
There is no problem when i browse to the same folder from inside the SharePoint site.
Any thoughts?
Thanks a lot in advance

How did you copy the link to the email ?
You can get the option 'Send To - Email a link ' option to get the correct link of the document to your mail.
& the error- basically appears when your webpart page is corrupted, normally happens when you have a custom webpart added to the page.
Recheck the link url, since you dont have problem accessing the folder inside the site.

Here is the link of the error page i get:

The problem is that your email-client reads and/or gives to the browser only the first 255 characters of the URL.
So the problem is with your email-client.
Nevertheless it is enough skipping all URL-parameters aside from RootFolder:
http://server-wss3-prod/sites/usa/BD/IntGeo/RFPs%20and%20Proposals/Forms/AllItems.aspx?RootFolder=%2fsites%2fusa%2fBD%2fIntGeo%2fRFPs%20and%20Proposals%2fNV%20Energy%202010%2fNV%20Energy%202010%20Bid%20Protocol%20documents
The URL-Length is short enough now and your users will come to the right folder.

Thanks Markus.
It did the job for now but there is still a chance that the limit will exceed, Right?
April 28th, 2010 4:24pm
right, this part of the URL has already a length of 99 chars.
http://server-wss3-prod/sites/usa/BD/IntGeo/RFPs%20and%20Proposals/Forms/AllItems.aspx?RootFolder
A file within SP can have a max length of 127 chars, filename plus path can have a max length of 255 chars, so you only have 156 chars left for both.
156 chars minus escape chars to be exactly.
If you only set the path to a folder and not directly to a file chances are good to keep within the limit.
