Getting Sharepoint 2007 to authenticate againist Active Directory
Hi, Did you run SharePoint Products and Technologies Wizard ? How did you install SharePoint ? Is SharePoint server in domain or its a stand alone machine ?Regards, Pratik Vyas | SharePoint Consultant | http://sharepointpratik.blogspot.com/

So I have installed Sharepoint 2007 with SP2 for the first time and I need to set it up to authentic againist an AD (which I also set up for the first time) I seem to be going around in circles and making mistakes and errors. All I want to do is point sharepoint that the AD and have it use the users credentials to allow them access to it. Can someone help me out with understanding this as never used Sharepoint until this morning. I would like Sharepoint to use the AD groups i create to authenticate rather than create a sharepoint group and add that to an AD group or user if that is possible

Need more specific inputs on you requirement !You mean to say you want to allow all users in AD read permission to your sharepoint site ? you can go to any of the sharepoint groups with read permission or any other group and add "all authentication users " that will all users u create in AD to access sharepoint site collection without adding manually to sharepoint sitecollection . Hope this helps Cheers VJ

The machine that SharePoint is installed on must be a part of the domain that you need users from. Unless it is a part of the dmain, you would not be able to use comain groups.
