Frozen Web Part MOSS 2007
Hello, One of my users is trying to edit a Image Web Part on his site. We go through the normal procedure of Site Actions - Edit Page and the page goes into edit mode. The other 2 web parts on the page allow us to edit them, delete, move between zones, etc. When we click on the edit drop-down in the Image Web Part nothing happens. We cannot move the web part between zones. When we click the X to delete it we get directed to a page that says Error: An unexpected Error has occurred. I have tried to edit the web part by simply clicking the drop-down arrow that appears (even when not in edit mode). I have tried using different browsers (IE 6,7,8). Nothing seems to change the web parts status, it is almost like the web part is frozen. I can't even delete the web part. Has anyone experience this or have any ideas on how I can go about resolving this issue? ANY input would be helpful as I can't find any information on this subject. Thank you,, Katrina

Hi there, It may be corrupted. You could try going into the Web Part Maintenance screen and deleting the web part from there. To do this, go to the home page of the site and then append this to the end: ?contents=1 For example, if your sites home page is http://yoursharepointsite/pages/default.aspx then it would read as: http://yoursharepointsite/pages/default.aspx?contents=1 This will take you into the Web Part Maintenance page - you will see the relevant web parts - you can go ahead and close / delete the web part as necessary. Hope this helps Geoff

Yes, that worked. I was able to delete it! Thank you for your help.

I was able to delete it and my user re-added the web part. BUT that one web part is still "freezing" and not allowing the user to edit/delete/or move. All the other web parts on the page are fine. Any insight? Anyone?

I don't know if this will help but I have a hosted SharePoint site where the web parts occasionally freeze as well. When I open the site with Mozilla, I am able to edit the web part whereas I can't in IE.

I have had the same problem. In fact I noticed that I was able to add a new web part in another zone and move it to the zone where the unresponsive web part was located. It seemed to work until I went to the Web Part Maintenace screen and deleted the "Frozen" web parts. When I tried to edit the page again the web parts that were working had stopped. 1. Did you ever find a solution other than rebuilding the page? 2. Did you have an "error on page" at the bottom of the web browser after you clicked on the arror for the frozen web part?
