Freezing columns when exporting to Excel from Sql Reporting Services (2012)
From other postings (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlreportingservices/thread/523153ab-d4fa-47bd-88ab-5f11040d5e0d), freeze pane is not supported when exporting to Excel. I can freeze the columns headings while in the browser and I understand that Sql Server Reporting Services(2012) now support xlsx format. I am creating the report in Visual Studio and deploying it to Sql Reporting Server. Is there any way of modifying the xml, when exporting from the browser to excel, to allow for freezing pane? Has anyone looked at SoftArtisan's Excel writer and SSRS Integration? I was able to export to SoftArtisan's Excel with the freezing pane. I understand that Microsoft had bought this company several years ago and wondered why this functionality was not included? Thanks!

Hi, I would like to make a correction in that statement regarding SoftArtisans and Microsoft. Microsoft has only bought the intellectual property of our OfficeWriter product, not the company - for reference see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SoftArtisans#Microsoft_Acquisition With regards to exporting to Excel with freeze panes using the built-in Excel export option in SSRS 2012, as far as we know, this Excel functionality is not fully supported in SSRS 2012. I found the following statement related to freeze panes in the MSDN documentation - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee240753.aspx (under the last section Renderer Support for Repeating or Freezing Headers): For example, if you set properties to repeat column headers and to keep column headers in view, when you export the report to Excel, the column headers appear at the top of each worksheet and the Freeze Panes feature is enabled for that row. Also in the following MSDN documentation - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd255234.aspx (under the Page Headers and Footers section), it says: By default, the Device Information SimplePageHeaders setting is set to False; therefore, the page headers are rendered as rows in the report on the Excel worksheet surface. The worksheet rows that contain the headers become locked rows. You can freeze or unfreeze the pane in Excel. Thank you. Ozgur Topcu SoftArtisans
