I found one issue in excel comes with office 2013, When I draw a table and try to change the column names colour then the application wont respond for a while. Is this a general issue?

Based on your description, I want to ask your several questions about your issue:
1. Did you know the version of Office, 32bit or 64bit?
2. Did this issue appear in all excel files?
3. >>the application wont respond for a while<<, did you mean it work fine after no response for a while?

I tested the issue in my own environment, it worked fine. I suggest you try these methods and check if they work for you.
Method 1:
Open Excel in safe mode and check if it works fine, if it works fine in safe mode try to disable Add-ins in Excel.
Go to File menu, click Options.
Click the Add-ins tab.
Select Com Add-ins from drop      down list and disable all add-ins.

Method 2:
This problem may occur if the Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) check box in Excel options is selected.
Go to File menu, click Options.
Click the Advanced tab.
Clear the Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) check box
