I have both x86 and x64 boot images advertised to my Unknown collection. The x86 was the last TS advertised so all computers launch it. For computers that require x64 OS TS, I choose that and then it downloads the x64 PE image and then restarts the computer and starts the task sequence. My niggling issue is that some computers I want to deploy x64 do not have a partition on the drive. So the x86 tries to download the x64 image and then gives the error (0x80070490). I know that if I enable and open the command prompt and, before running the x64 Task Sequence, I manually diskpart the drive and create and format the drive, the x64 PE image downloads and runs fine. Is there any way I can make the x86 partition format the drive first before it downloads the x64 image? I have tried several things in the x86 Task Sequences, but cannot get it to work. Before I get into how you can Do this i just want to point out that there is not problems installing a 64 bit OS image from a 32 bit WinPE, so why not just use the same boot image for all your OS's ( I Do this for both XP,Vista,Win7 x64, 2008 x32 and 2008R2) Michaelhttp://kongkuba1.spaces.live.com

Great idea. I had no idea the x64 OS could be installed from the x86 WinPE. I guess when I created the Task Sequences, it automatically assigned the WinPE image to use based on architecture, and so I didn't think to change it. I have tried what you described, switching the properties of my x64 TS to use the x86 boot image and was able to successfully install my OS without having to switch to x64 WinPE. Thanks so much.
