With the same TS working for 32bit but failing for 64bit it looks like a possible bug, workaround has been to manualy delete the partitions before re running the TS. (suspend bitlocker first but don't see why we would need to do this, as we dont have to do this for the 32bit OSD TS)

Hello - The below thread is also talking about the similar issue? Have you seen this ? http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrosd/thread/ff51edaa-3682-416a-b606-a4f6ba53989c Anoop C Nair - This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees, and confers no rights. |Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. I read that first, In the marked solution they talk about adding a disable bitlocker step to the TS, this is already present in our TS for the Refresh scenario where the TS is run from inside Windows 7, (launched from advertised programes) In the PXE or Boot from media scenario we should not get this error, i just re-tested our 32bit build incase i was going mad and it has no problems with the Format and Partition Disk step when PXE booting a Windows 7 ENT SP1 x86 machine that had bitlocker enabled on the drive. I also ran manually from the prompt on the x64 build under x64 WinPE 3.1, c:\windows\temp\diskpart /s osddiskpart.txt and it completes successfully so im at a loss as to why it fails when run via the TS.

Hi, As I know, this is a known issue to Microsoft. It is important to note that the issue will only happen if an x64 Boot Image is ASSIGNED to the Task Sequence. If the Task Sequence is started from an x64 Boot Image via PXE or Boot Media, but an x86 Boot Image is assigned to the Task Sequence, the issue will NOT occur. Additionally, if the Task Sequence is started from an x86 Boot Image via PXE or Boot Media, but an x64 Boot Image is assigned to the Task Sequence, the issue WILL occur. To work around the issue, the first "Format and Partition Disk" task can be set to continue on error, and then a second "Format and Partition Disk" task can be added to the Task Sequence that runs only if the first "Format and Partition Disk" task fails. Since the partition and format succeeds the second time around, this should resolve the problem: 1. Right click on the affected Task Sequence and choose "Edit". 2. Click on the task immediately before the "Format and Partition Disk" task, then click on "Add' --> "New Group". This should add a folder called "New Group" immediately before the "Format and Partition Disk" task. 3. Click on the group folder created in Step #2. Next to the "Name:" field, rename the group to something descriptive such as "Format Disks". 4. Using the move up icon to the right of "Add" and "Remove", move the "Format and Partition Disk" task up one so that it is nested under the newly created group from Step #2. 5. Click on the "Format and Partition Disk" task, and then click on the "Options" tab. Under the "Options" tab: o Click on the "Continue on error" checkbox and make sure it is checked. o If there are any conditions, move the conditions from the task to the group created in in Step #2. In other words, the conditions should be set on the group created in Step #2 instead of the actual "Format and Partition Disk" task. Make sure that the conditions are copied to the group from Step #2 EXACTLY as they originally appeared in the "Format and Partition Disk" task. Once the conditions have been moved from the "Format and Partition Disk" task to the group from Step #2, make sure to delete any conditions on the "Format and Partition Disk" task. 6. Right click on the "Format and Partition Disk" task and choose "Copy", then right click on the "Format and Partition Disk" task again and choose "Paste". This should create a second "Format and Partition Disk" task immediately after the first "Format and Partition Disk" task. Make sure the second "Format and Partition Disk" task is also nested under the group created in Step #2. 7. Click on the second "Format and Partition Disk" task, and then click on the "Options" tab. Under the "Options" tab: o Uncheck the "Continue on error" checkbox. o Click on "Add Condition"--> "Task Sequence Variable". This should bring up a "Task Sequence Variable" box. Set the values in this box as described below: § Next to the field "Variable:", enter in: _SMSTSLastActionSucceeded § In the "Condition:" drop down box, set it to: equals § Next to the field "Value:", enter in: false § Click on the "OK" button. 8. Click on the "Apply" or "OK" button to save the Task Sequence. Thanks

Thanks Quan, I implemented your workaround and tested it. I was actually halfway through dialing Prem support to log it when i thought ill just check my post to see if anyone had responded so saved us a Prem case. MS should post a KB for this so people don't go chassing their tail on this one.. Cheers Red.

I just ran a test with the same TS but assigned the x86 WinPE image to to the TS to deploy x64 Windows 7 and it worked. I was under the impression to deploy x64 you need to pxe boot the x64 WinPE, apparently not...
