As a very temporary workaround, using services.msc you can check what executable is behind the Forefront Identity Manager Service is. Then you can open taskmanager, show all process and kill it. I don't know it out of my head. In order to find a solution you'll have to provide more information about your setup, or go through the regular stuff: Event log on your FIM server Event log on your SQL server SQL Server log Enable FIM Service tracing (you are talking about the FIM Service eh? not the FIM Sync Service): http://setspn.blogspot.com/2010/06/fim-2010-enable-advanced-error-logging.html (the very last part) Additionaly: What topology do you have? FIM Sync,Portal,Service, SQL all in one? Or across boxes? Did it worked before? Is this a fresh install? http://setspn.blogspot.com

The FIM Sync Service or the FIM Service? Does this service start following a reboot?

FIM sync, portal and service are going to be on one box and the SQL is on another box. This is a fresh install! The service does not start if you reboot at all.

So I guess the installer finished succesfully, but the service never started? Can you explain: Is it the FIM Service or the FIM Synchronization Service which does not start? or both? Is your Application / FIM event log clean? any errors which might be related? Is your SQL Server log clean? You state "going" to be. What parts have you already installed?http://setspn.blogspot.com
