The most common problem for this is if you extract it too deep in the folder structure. It is very easy to get too long filenames for Windows. Try to extract to the root of the drive instead.

Yes I am, and I have access now. I had to apply for the FIM 2010 beta on the "Connection Directory" page. Thanks!

The RC1 Update 3 installation guide suggests in the first section that it covers FIM CM... but inspection of the document reveals that there is nil CM content apart from FIM CM MSI feature names... this is a bit light! Any idea if there is important FIM CM stuff to know about with this release? I know it now works on R2 - hurrah! Perhaps there's so little to say because it's feature complete, bug free, lightening fast, simple to configure, etc., etc. Hee.

I have installed already update 2. I opened that link but didn't find update 3, only full FIM package with update 3 already integrated. It was not so clear how to upgrade to update 3. Can I upgrade FIM with that full installer or is there "update 3 only package" somewhere?

Update 3 seems to be more like a RC2, but they've chosen to call it an update. Why do I say this? Update 3 is noted as a new baseline in the release notes, and its install files are a full FIM2010 installation. So you can either do a clean install using it, or follow the release notes to perform an upgrade from Update 2. Although I've found that only some components upgrade, while others appear to install over the top of the Update 2.That link works, but you need to ensure you are enrolled in the MS Connect program for: "Forefront Identity Manager 2010 (FIM 2010) Beta" and signed in to Connect.Hope this helps.
