Forcing subreports to execute in a specific sequence
I have a RS 2005 report with 4 subreports. I would like one of the subreports to query its data after the other three subreports have run. After some testing, it appears that the subreports run in sequence, one at a time, from the subreport positioned closest to the top of the report, then the next one down, and the next, and so on. The report I want to run last actually HAS to be at the top of the page for what I am doing. I can't find a setting that would allow me to specify the sequence the subreports are executed. Is there one? (I understand this may not be possible, but it is worth a shot.) Thank you. Ken

Hi Ken, A Reporting Services report can contain multiple dataset definitions. By default, datasets are executed in parallel. But for some reason, if you want to set the execution order, there are several ways to achieve that. For detailed information, here is a document wrote by Robert Bruckner. Hope this helps. Raymond

Thank you for your response. I don't think it applies to my question though, as my understanding is that sub-reports do not share a connection; they are essentially stand-alone reports. The page you linked me to discussed multiple datasets on a single report, not datasets on multiple subreports. :( Ken

Are the subreports executed in sequence? although when checked in sql profiler they seem as if they are executed sequentially but is that alwayz the case.
