Folders getting created on SCCM SQL cluster node

Hi All,

on the server where SCCM DB is hosted the server is now having different issue, lot's of folders are getting created with sequence of name like SMS_<<FQDN of Primary site>>_SMS_SQL_Serverxxxx, in that we have 3 files getting created

1) srvboot.exe

2) srvboot.ini

3) srvboot.log

and when checked srvboot.log, I am getting below error

Failed to retrieve SQL Server service account.

Bootstrap operation failed: Failed to create machine self-signed certificate for site role [SMS_SQL_SERVER].

the frequency of folder creation is like minutes, now I see all most 10k folder like this on that server. to get ride of this what all the actions that I need to take. Is that fine to remove these folders from that clustered SQL node?

Hi,

Thanks for your reply!

I already see a service with name SMS_SITE_SQL_BACKUP_FQDN on all cluster nodes, at the same time I see the service SMS_SERVER_BOOTSTRAP_FQDN_SM_SQL_SERVER is getting stopped and started when I see the above folders getting created in C:\ drive.

Not sure why still these folders are getting generated with the above mentioned errors. Thanks!

Hi,

Please check M. Fricke's reply in the thread.

"

The site server is trying to install the sms_backup agent on the SQL Server Cluster nodes.
Without successfull bootstrap the siteserver backup is not able to run successfully.

Try grant everyone the read permisson on
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS on the SQL server nodes.

This worked for me.
After that a Folder named "SMS_<SITESERVER-FQDN>" appeared on C: on the SQL Cluster nodes, and a "SMS_SITE_SQL_BACKUP_FQDN" Service should be installed.

After the new Folder is created and the new Service is installed, you can safely remove the bootstrap Service by opening a command prompt and enter:

sc delete "SMS_SERVER_BOOTSTRAP_FQDN-of-SiteServer_SMS_SQL_SERVER"

Hi All,

We ended up raising the PSS case and looks like in inboxes folder .CMN files got stuck without process, if all the functionality is working fine and DB replication is happening as expected then..

We are good to remove those files from below location, it stopped created the folders in cluster nodes.

Installation direcotry of SCCM\Inboxes\certmgr.box\
