Finding SCCM Performance Enhancements
Hi, Since I upgraded to SCCM R3 from SMS 2003, my requirements have started to increase, and my equipment real eastate has grown steadily. The original SMS 2003 system was installed for software distribution only, but we now use SINV, HINV, Reporting, and Metering in SCCM 2007. This has resulted in a proportional reduction in performance, and although the system still works, I now need to make some changes to make the system more useable. Current configuration (Designed for Software Dist) 1 Single SCCM site covering approx 50 AD sites, with a single SCCM server. (This breaks up into approx 200 subnets across a large geographical area). Single site was used to reduce management overhead. The SCCM server is in our Data Center. SQL 2005 hosts the DB on a separate server in the Data Center (with other data bases). 30 x FS Distribution Points Server the larger AD Sites on shared file servers. 1 x FS Distribution Point in the Data Center serves the other AD sites and subnets and home workers (the smaller subnets are part of the data center AD site). Site links vary, but range from 2Mb to 50Mb dependent on site size (eg 20=Users 2Mb 400 Users=50Mb) Total approx 6500 client machines & 6000 Users. No additional MP's or any other server Roles at this time. At the moment, queries are very slow, software dist/advertising has slowed right down. The SCCM server has 8 cores and 6GB RAM, but doesn't appear to be busy. The SQL Server is running at about 10% CPU so isn't hugely stressed. But is serving other applications. I need to speed things up as efficiently as possible. Any suggestions or queries would be most welcome, but I need to maintain a single SCCM site, there are no time zones issues Thanks :)

SQL 2005 hosts the DB on a separate server in the Data Center (with other data bases). That's not the best idea. Have you already tried using performance monitor to get an idea what component (Hardware, OS or ConfigMgr) is responsible for that behavior? Things like disk queue length, CPU usage, memory usage, ConfigMgr performance counter, etc. That topic is very compley and there very hard to troubleshoot here in the forums.Torsten Meringer | http://www.mssccmfaq.de

I'll get on that ASAP and get some stats. I do have some Perfmon experience (Exchange), just not used it with SCCM before. Will post my findings as soon as I can.Keep Smiling and Look Busy :)
