Find a file in a SharePoint site collection
I often get requests from development teams about modifying files, essentially js or css in Site Collections. Often the file's location is not clearly mentioned and it's kind of understood that I will know where they reside. That is not the case. Usually these files are in document libraries that contains 100s of other files and many folders. If I am looking for a file in a Site Collection not knowing which location it is at, what is the admin (no code) way to find the location of that file? Thanks

Hi, use SharePoint Designer. The css or js files should be placed in a dedicated folder and not among other items used by sharepoint users. DanielDaniel Bugday Web: SharePoint Forum Blog: SharePoint By Bugday Twitter: Follow me on Twitter Technet: My Ask The Exert Area On Technet

Thanks Daniel. For this, open the site collection in SP designer. Keeping the top level site selected, go to Site > Reports > All Files. This will list all files sorted alphabetically.
