Filter/Subtotal/Matrix Feature
In SSRS 2005, I am filtering by the total values of a row group in my matrix. The subtotals do not reflect my filtered data. I have read prior posts that suggested I put the filter in the matrix filter rather than the row group filter. However, I do not believe this will work for me. I am filtering by aggregate totals (e.g. top 10 GROUPS, or GROUP total > 50), and therefore I think I need to have the filter at the group level. So with SSRS 2005, I am stuck. Will SSRS 2008 fix this problem? My only real solution is to hide the subtotal column, which looks poor. How does SSRS 2008 handle this issue? Michael

Unfortunately, you'll need to do the aggregation in the query so that you can then filter for only the appropriate groups in the report. Thanks, -Lukasz

Thank you Lukasz. Would be very nice if the Subtotal feature was aware of which columns and rows were displayed so that the totals could be accurately reflected when groups were excluded from the report. Unfortunately for me, the flexibility of the grouping and totalling without modification to the underlying queries are the foundation for my flexible reporting system. I could not realistically design queries that were able to handle all of the forumulas and functionality I've added to the reports via custom expressions, sortings, and groupings. Translating all this to SQL alone would be a nightmare. Do you know if the feature to have the subtotal functionality be "group aware" is on a task list for a future release? Thanks again, Michael

Yes - we call the general class of calculations needed here aggregates of aggregates and this is most certainly on our list for a future release. Thanks, -Lukasz

Lukasz, Do you know when this functionality will be released? Thanks, John.

I have the same issue with Row Totals including the total of filtered out Columns. Has this been fixed in 2008 or is there any workaround.
