that is a very broad error. Can you display exactly what you are running for the stsadm command?

can you find the default.aspx with SPD? If so what does it say when trying to open it?Perhaps some features were enabled on the original site which are not available for your new site collection. Check this first!

You should become clearer:Which site cannot be opened? On which site does this message appears based on which action?

You need to deactivate Publishing feature and start it forcibly using STSADM. Also, make sure that the masterpage is correct.I LOVE MS..... Thanks and Regards, Kshitiz (Posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.)

Yes, but does your master page exist in the master page gallery? What happens if you set the master page back to default.master? Can you get to the home page then?JeffJeff Holliday Solutions Architect Portals and Collaboration Ensynch, Inc

In addition to that (although my first thought would also be the masterpage) have you used any customizations on your source server that are not on the target server? (WSP's)Regards,JeroenMy blog on WSS / MOSS development is found at http://jebass.blogspot.com

Yes, You'd better let us know more information, In addtion to above questions,Did you backup site and restored site are the same site? Or different site in the same web application? or something else?Have you tried to use export / import instead of backup / restore?Sincerely, Lambert Qin Posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

When I click on Master page link I get File Not found error. Can you please help? I followed this step to upgrade to SP2 http://www.ekhichdi.com/e/Correct-steps-to-install-Sharepoint-updates-2.html on both test and production. After this I backed up my WSS site using stsadm backup and then restored on prodcution. But when I go to hone page it says page not available and when I go to master page it says "File not Found" Thanks

I had the same problem and the cause was that in the new server I did not copy a custom user control that existed on the old server and that was being referenced from my master page. Copying the user control solved the problem
