that is a very broad error. Can you display exactly what you are running for the stsadm command?

can you find the default.aspx with SPD? If so what does it say when trying to open it?Perhaps some features were enabled on the original site which are not available for your new site collection. Check this first!

When I click on Master page link I get File Not found error. Can you please help? After this I backed up my WSS site using stsadm backup and then restored on prodcution. But when I go to hone page it says page not available and when I go to master page it says "File not Found" Thanks

I had the same problem and the cause was that in the new server I did not copy a custom user control that existed on the old server and that was being referenced from my master page. Copying the user control solved the problem
