Fallback status point high CPU usage
I am running SCCM 2007 SP2 R2 on Windows server 2008 R2. We have 2 servers in our environment, SCCMSRV which has all roles on it except for the Fallback Status Point server, SCCMFBSRV. I've noticed lately that the smsexec.exe *32 service is
constantly using 15 - 20% of the CPU on the SCCMFBSRV server. I don't remember it being constantly that high before. Is this normal behavior or is there something wrong, that I should look into? Thanks.

It depends on what processes are currently being completed, how many clients are connecting, ect. It certainly is plausible that much CPU could be being utilized.
Also - if the system hasn't been restarted in sometime - this could also explain this activity - I've seen SCCM get a little **stuck**.

Thanks for the reply. I just rebooted the server and the CPU utilization has stayed the same.
There have only been about a dozen Config Manager client installations over the last 2 days so there shouldn't be that much traffic going on and not that much to process. Is there any other kind of traffic that goes through here besides client installation
status reports?
I looked at the smsexe.log and it looks fine to me and it isn't very large. I can post it if necessary.

fspisapi.log and fspmgr.log are the place to look for activities.Torsten Meringer | http://www.mssccmfaq.de

fspmgr.log > copied 18 files at 8:00am, 5 files at 9:00am, 13 files at 9:30am and 15 files at 10:30am today
I didn't see fspisapi.log in c:\sms\logs on the fall back status point server

So the FSP is not really busy copying files ...
fspisapi.log can be found in the \SMS_CCM\Logs folder.Torsten Meringer | http://www.mssccmfaq.de

Yeah, there doesn't seem to be much going on the way it looks to me.
In fspisapi.log, there were 34 successfully processed requests from 9:30 to 11:30 am this morning.
Should I try to remove the role from this server and re-add it? Maybe that would clear something up??

Hard to tell without sitting in front of the system. Have you alreay tried perfmon to get an idea which thread is causing the high CPU usage?Torsten Meringer | http://www.mssccmfaq.de

ntdll.dll is the dll. I think this may have started after I upgraded the server OS from 2008 SP2 to 2008 R2 SP1. That's about the timing when I started noticing the higher CPU.

Well you didn't mention that tiny bit of information until now. Upgrading the OS while ConfigMgr is running on it is not supported.Torsten Meringer | http://www.mssccmfaq.de

Thanks for the information. I removed the Fallback status point role from the server and then re-added it and now the CPU utilization is back down where it is supposed to be.
