Failing to retrieve policy error 0x80072F78 in OSD
First off, OSD with PXE boot was working fine - now it is not! This is what I last did:I created a new driver package, imported a load of drivers and added some to the boot image in the process. When I PXE booted,Within a few seconds I saw a window displaying:Copying the Preinstallation EnvironmentOnce the copy completes i get a window stating:Ready to startRemove the CD and do not boot from CDDeploy XP sp 3Click Finish to start the task sequence. This was not happening before. After reading a few posts on here I then manually updated the distribution point to make sure the wim image changes had updated. This according to the messages was successful. Now when I PXE boot, machines cant find a policy.I get the message:Failed to Run task sequence: An error occurred while retrieving policy for this computer (0x80072F78)What have I missed or messed up?

could just be a timing issue and the dp's don't have the updated boot.wim's yet, did you try again recently ? My step by step SCCM Guides windows-noob on Twitter

0x80072f8f = ERROR_INTERNET_SECURE_FAILURE ErrorClockWrongIt also can be caused by a problem when booting to WinPE which makes a request to the BIOS to grab the system time.Hope it helps.

Even this is an old post but i would like to share my solution in case somebody else faces the same issue. In my case I found out that SCCM MP Control component was showing the following error. MP Control Manager detected management point is not responding to HTTP requests. The HTTP status code and text is 500, Internal Server Error. and my SMSTS.log was showing WinHttpReceiveResponse (hRequest, NULL), HRESULT=80072f78 (e:\nts_sms_fre\sms\framework\osdmessaging\libsmsmessaging.cpp,7722) TSPxe 4/4/2012 10:26:04 AM 260 (0x0104) failed to receive response with winhttp; 80072f78 TSPxe 4/4/2012 10:26:04 AM 260 (0x0104) Will retry in 5 second(s) TSPxe 4/4/2012 10:26:04 AM 260 (0x0104) Retrying... TSPxe 4/4/2012 10:26:09 AM 260 (0x0104) Once i fixed the issue with MP Control component everything started working.
