Failed to run the last action: Join Domain or Workgroup. Execution of task sequence failed
Hello,I have a problem with deploying an XPSP2 image with SCCM. The deployment fails with the error code 000000032. In the file smsts.log (on the deployed machine) I see the following:Failed to run the last action: Join Domain or Workgroup. Execution of task sequence failedSome more details:The smsts.log:<![LOG[The execution of the group (Install Operating System) has failed and the execution has been aborted. I have done some more investigating. Above the logfile-lines I saw the following:<![LOG[!--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------!]LOG]!><time="23:33:31.171+000" date="01-02-2009" component="TSManager" context="" type="1" thread="1596" file="instruction.cxx:2957"><![LOG[Expand a string: FullOS]LOG]!><time="23:33:31.171+000" date="01-02-2009" component="TSManager" context="" type="0" thread="1596" file="executionenv.cxx:782"><![LOG[!bInWinPE, HRESULT=80070032 (e:\nts_sms_fre\sms\client\tasksequence\executionengine\instruction.cxx,2725)]LOG]!><time="23:33:31.171+000" date="01-02-2009" component="TSManager" context="" type="0" thread="1596" file="instruction.cxx:2725"><![LOG[The step (Join Domain or Workgroup) must be running in full OS]LOG]!><time="23:33:31.171+000" date="01-02-2009" component="TSManager" context="" type="3" thread="1596" file="instruction.cxx:2725"><![LOG[!--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------!It is about the line in bold. I did some googleing and found the following:http://blogcastrepository.com/forums/p/52657/56479.aspx#56479. Therefore I added an extra line in the task sequence after 'Apply Windows settings': Restart computer and return to the newly installed operating system.Unfortunately this did not solve the problem, there was another error message. And the 'Restart Computer' task failed for whatever reason.Any help is highly appreciated! With kind regards,Willem-Jan

Hi,I faced the same issue initially. So what i did is I created a TS from MDT and imported it back to SCCM. TS from MDT has lot more options for OSD then a normal TS from SCCM.Raj

Raj Hello Rai,Thank you for replying. For me as reference: a TS is a Task Sequence. What is a MDT?Thnx.... Willem-Jan

Hi,MDT stands for Microsoft Deployment Toolkit. It can be used to extend the task sequence options in SCCM. For more information view the following:http://blogs.technet.com/deploymentguys/archive/2008/03/20/sccm-2007-and-microsoft-deployment-toolkit-video-walkthrough.aspxRegards, Jannes Alink

Hi,I have had a very similar problem as you have experienced, not sure if you fixed your problem but I noticed where the problem is in your task sequence.I developed a script to automatically populate the Domain OU field during the WinPE process.Anyway I had played around alot with my task sequence and at one point I deleted the default Apply Network Settings step and added my own Join Domain or Workgroup step. When I was looking on various sites to fix my problem I was reading the variable names and it dawned on me that maybe I should just copy that step from a working TS to my TS which isnt working.I did this and suddenly my script and everything was working. No more error. So I did some further checking now and I noticed a difference between your step and my step.your Step : <step type="SMS_TaskSequence_JoinDomainWorkgroupAction" name="Join Domain or Workgroup" description="" runIn="FullOS" successCodeList="0"> <action>osdjoin.exe /type:%OSDJoinType%</action> My Step : <step type="SMS_TaskSequence_ApplyNetworkSettingsAction" name="Apply Network Settings" description="Actions to configure network settings" runIn="WinPEandFullOS" successCodeList="0"> <action>osdnetsettings.exe configure</action> So from the above comparison you can see some clear difference between the two steps. The one which stands out the most for me is the runIn= part.If you havent fixed your problem yet, I hope this helps.
