Failed to connect to remote distribution point

Hi,

I have found strange behaviour of DP's in my enviroment. Maybe you have similar situation and you will share with me how to fix it.

When I push to distribution content on many DP's then status of most of DP's are changing on "red" but only one error which is displayed is "Failed to connect to remote Distribution point". DP will be change again to "green" when content has validaton process will be started and finalized.

Do you have any idea of this behaviour?

Thank you.

Thank you for answer.

In distmgr.log sometimes repeat this records only:

CWmiRegistry::GetStr: Failed to get string value SMSCWSPortList
CWmiRegistry::GetStr: Failed to get string value SMSCWSSSLPortList

It is 2008 R2.

what about the PkgXferMgr? I assume that the problematic DPs are on remote systems, not on site servers?

you can also check the Content Status for the package in the Monitoring workspace of the admin console. It should list errors and indicate why the content distribution failed. Right-click the package > View Status.

In PkgXferMgr.log is clear also.

Correct me if I wrong, but if on DP there is no error with wrong distributed content. So, it is not possible to check which package has generated this issue :-(

You should see an error in either distmgr.log, pkgxfermgr.log or smsdpprov.log. Or use status message viewer.

Have you resolve the issue ?
November 17th, 2014 1:28pm

No, I stil lfighting with this issue. Last weekend all DP's has bee nchanged on green (beacuse I have configured hash validation process at Saturday night). Today i have distributed content on few DP's and one has bee nchanged on red again. I have checked distmgr.log and found this:

user(NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM) runing application(SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER) from machine (XYZ.XYZ.com) is submitting SDK changes from site(XYZ)
CWmiRegistry::GetStr: Failed to get string value SMSCWSSSLPortList
Ignoring drive \\XYZ.XYZ.com\C$\.  File \\XYZ.XYZ.com\C$\NO_SMS_ON_DRIVE.SMS exists.
CWmiRegistry::GetStr: Failed to get string value SMSCWSSSLPortList
Ignoring drive \\XYZ.XYZ.com\D$\.  File \\XYZ.XYZ.com\D$\NO_SMS_ON_DRIVE.SMS exists.

and few lines later this:

Signature share exists on distribution point path \\XYZ.XYZ.com\SMSSIG$
CWmiRegistry::GetStr: Failed to get string value SMSCWSSSLPortList
CWmiRegistry::GetStr: Failed to get string value SMSCWSSSLPortList

No more "red" records in other logs for touched this issue servers...

Hi ,

Add the site server's computer account on the remote DP administrators group and see how it goes.

Thanks.

Hi,

All servers has been added to Security Group and this group has been added next to local admin group on all SCCM servers.

Thank you Nolan,

At this moment all DP's are "green". I will back to this and investigate when it will again change status on "red".

Yes, I know this is an old post, but Im trying to clean them up. Did you solve this problem, if so what was the solution?

Since no one has answer this post, I recommend opening  a support case with Microsoft Customer Support Services (CSS) as they can work with you to solve this problem.
