Fail to start Search Service  "An unhandled exception occurred in the user interface.Exception Information: OSearch" (MOSS installed on DC)
Hello,Today, I set up a new MOSS 2007 and everything seems fine beside when I try to start 'Office SharePoint Server Search Service', I get the error: An unhandled exception occurred in the user interface.Exception Information: OSearch Most people on Internet said, the account must be domain\username. yes it is indeed! I try many time and make sure the account and his password is correct. This MOSS is deployed with the Advanced mode on a domain controller server.I remember Microsoft somewhere said there are some issue to install MOSS on dc. but I forget where and how to fix it. Is it really regarding with DC?Do you encounter this problem before? Thanks. Hope Helpful | Xiaofeng Wang | http://www.leoworks.net

Here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262243.aspx says: We recommend that you read the Known Issues/Readme documentation before you install Office SharePoint Server 2007 on a domain controller. Installing Office SharePoint Server 2007 on a domain controller requires additional configuration steps that are not discussed in this document. But where is the documentation? I find many people have the same question as me, but no one can answer. Where is the response from Microsoft SharePoint Team?Hope Helpful | Xiaofeng Wang | http://www.leoworks.net

Hi Xiaofeng, Thanks for posting and happy Chinese Spring Festival! I had install SharePoint Server 2007 in DC for testing some times without issues, therefore, I do not think it would related with DC. In my understanding, the additional configuration steps referred in “the Installing Office SharePoint Server 2007 on a domain controller requires additional configuration steps that are not discussed in this document” is the DC configurations and it should be a Windows server things. For your issue, as this is a general exception, I need more information for further investigation. First, please make sure the account (domain\username) is a member of Buildin\Administratoes group and properly permissions on SQL Server. If your issue continues to persists, could you please help me to collect an SPSReport following the steps? To capture SPSReports, please follow the steps: 1) Download the SPSReport tool from http://spsreport.codeplex.com/ 2) Run the SPSReport.exe on the SharePoint Server. 3) Choose option 3 (Full). 4) On your system a CAB file will be generated in the %systemroot%\SPSReports\Portal\rpt\Cab directory called %COMPUTERNAME%_SPSReports.CAB. 5) The CAB file will contain the reports generated by the SPS Reporting Tool. 6) Send the cab file to the workspace above. Workspace URL: (https://sftasia.one.microsoft.com/ChooseTransfer.aspx?key=5e1b2fe4-f991-4e96-bf65-0eec91a4ba50) Workspace Password: hMI$]pODW$32{D4 The troubleshooting process may take long time, if this is a brand new SharePoint Server for testing purpose, I also suggest you to reinstall the server to save your time. Hello,I has proved myself this issue is NOT related with Domain Controller in a clear virtual machine: all the services, Excel Caculation/Doc Converstation/Search, really work on the DC server. unfortunattely I do not know what results in it at last. I have no time to wait and I decide to reinstall. Many ThanksHope Helpful | Xiaofeng Wang | http://www.leoworks.net
