FRS Service Stopped

Dear,

I have three domain controllers 2008 (one PDC and 2 are ADC). The FRS service automatically stopped in all these servers and when i restarted the FRS service , it generate the error in events " the donain controller is migrated to DFS for Replication of  SYSVOL folder".

However no Sysvol_DFRS folder is created in my domain controllers ..

So i could not able to understand wheather it is the issue or not.

second should i migrate my all other domain controller trees of the same forest to DFRS (is it good , and what is the risk level in doing this).

Waiting for response,

This is the very active forum where i always get solution.. thanks to Microsoft and contributors..

Upload the below output in skydrive & paste the link.

Run dcdiag, netdiag and repadmin in verbose mode.
-> DCDIAG /V /C /D /E /s:yourdcname > c:\dcdiag.log
-> netdiag.exe /v > c:\netdiag.log (On each dc)
-> repadmin.exe /showrepl * /verbose /all /intersite > c:\repl.txt
A quick little dump repadmin /replsum > c:\replsum.txt
-> ADReplStatus
-> dnslint /ad /s ip address of your dc

Domain controllers use a special shared folder named SYSVOL to replicate logon scripts and Group Policy object files to other domain controllers. Windows 2000 Server and Windows Server 2003 use File Replication Service (FRS) to replicate SYSVOL, whereas Windows Server 2008 uses the newer DFS Replication service when in domains that use the Windows Server 2008 domain functional level, and FRS for domains that run older domain functional levels.

To use DFS Replication to replicate the SYSVOL folder, you can either create a new domain that uses the Windows Server 2008 domain functional level, or you can use the procedure that is discussed in this document to upgrade an existing domain and migrate replication to DFS Replication.

There are many helpful articles for you to refer to to migrate sysvol replication form FSR to DFSR. Please refer to the below link to find a article you want to follow:

After raising function level to 2008 R2 you must run dfsrmig /setglobalstate 1,2,3

but follow the correct instructions in the AD Server 2008 Resource Kit - states upgrading the function level to Windows Server 2008  "DFSR is used to replicate the contents of the sysvol folder."

Have you ever migrated your DC to use the DFS Replication service to replicate the SYSVOL share? If this is the case, FRS service will be stopped after the migration, this is by design.

SYSVOL_DFSR is a parallel folder to which DFSR migration process will copy the contents of SYSVOL. If you did migrated your DC to use DFS, then can you please check your steps against these Migration Series and see if all steps are well performed? Or as already requested by Biswajit, check the status of your DC, then share the details.

The DFS Replication service offers several advantages over the older File Replication Service (FRS), it is recommended to migrate replication of the SYSVOL share to the DFS Replication service.
