FIM portal- Service not avaialble
I installed the FIM Service and Portal without stablishting the SPNs for FIM2010. After I activated the Kerberos protocol I getting this when trying to open the portal: "Service not available. Please contact your help desk or system administrator" I tried to stablish the SPNs for the fim but the problem persists. Is there a workaround or do I need to uninstall FIM service and portal? If yes, is there special steps I need to perform before I uninstall the FIM service and portal?

Hello cardiali, On Technet the 'Before you begin' chapter explains in detail what you need to undertake to get your setup prepared. Please read this document, before you begin. The chapter 'Installing the FIM 2010 server components' that comes afterwards explains in detail what needs to be done the get the Service and Portal running. You need to follow up on the exact steps that are explained in both documents. If you already have a setup which is corrupt I think it is faster to just uninstall all components and start fresh. Uninstall FIM Service and Portal Uninstall Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0 Uninstall the Windows Internal Database (WID, used by WSS3). You do not have to uninstall the FIM Synchronization service and its database (in SQL, not WID)Danny Alvares, Technical Solutions Architect IAM

Hello Danny, I will try your suggestion of uninstalling and starting fresh. However, do you know of a workaround for this? I believe that there should be a way to troubleshoot this besides uninstall and re-install? What do you think?

Follow the SPN instructions at the bottom of the "Before you begin" document, and work from there. You'll only need to reinstall if you entered the wrong information in the install wizards and/or want to change them. But that may be the easier approach, rather than troubleshooting from a "non-standard" (according to the install guide) install. That's why Danny suggested it. If you haven't customized it much, then don't worry about the uninstall/reinstall.. there's nothing to lose.

If what I mentioned above doesn't work, post the results of your setspn -l commands (for everything you've set), and your architecture here, and perhaps we can figure it out. (Replace FQDNs with made up domains to generalize for a forum.. like contoso.com).

Silly question but was the Windows service entitle "Forefront Identity Manager Service" running? Have you followed the instructions in the Before You Begin section of the Installation Guide?David Lundell www.ilmBestPractices.com
