FIM development performance improvement tips
Since I spend many hours working over VPNs and RDP sessions developing FIM solutions, this topic is something close to my heart. Having just posted a wiki article on this subject last night ... please have a read and add any tips of your own here. Markus ... on the subject of performance improvement, I've found that the Technet wiki site can be very slow to respond (which can be a BIG deterrent for people using this resource). Is there a problem there ... like an underpowered SQL backend perhaps?Bob Bradley, www.unifysolutions.net (FIMBob?)

why don't you use powershell for FIM configuration migration?

Perhaps you misunderstood me Eugene - I _DO_ use powershell for migration, but I am talking about the actual development/build process (not just deployment).Bob Bradley, www.unifysolutions.net (FIMBob?)

I just can't imagine that you have to do actual development over RDP :)

I just can't imagine that you have to do actual development over RDP :) Really? This is generally a part of most any FIM project I've worked on.My Book - Active Directory, 4th Edition My Blog - www.briandesmond.com

Ditto Brian ... I'm generally happy to do build/development this way because I generally have much more powerful infrastructure to connect to than I can muster on my own, and the remote connection can be optimised to make this very practical. Also, data is a lot safer if it stays inside a company firewall, and invariably even development/test data is sensitive to a degree :). It's just small things like screen refresh times that make a difference ...Bob Bradley, www.unifysolutions.net (FIMBob?)

But, once again, I prefer to do most of the work on the lab running locally, even if you have to simulate some MAs like SAP with file-based agents. this gives me an ability to use snapshots of VMs and rollback lets say the FIM portal schema without reinstalling it from scratch. And customers might not have VMs at all...

Bob, don't get me wrong. your idea with removing this huge background image is good, but for the year 2011 I have completely forgotten that such customers with bad connectivity still exist. Long time ago I was setting my MSTSC client expirience to 'Modem 56k' or even used Citrix client when connection was really bad. But not for the last 3-5 years.
